Within its borders, Springfield Township has over 2,200 acres of publicly accessible preserves and natural areas. These include:
- Shiawassee Basin Preserve: Located at the Shiawassee River headwaters and accessed from Eaton Road, the preserve is owned and managed by Springfield Township.
- Indian Springs: Located at the Huron River headwaters and accessed from White Lake Road, the park is owned and managed by the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Authority. A $12 million Environmental Discovery Center opened in the summer of 2004.
- Timberland Sanctuary: Located at the Huron River headwaters and accessed from Ware Road, the sanctuary is owned and managed by the Michigan Nature Association.
- State Wildlife Area: Located at the Shiawassee River headwaters and accessed from Davisburg Road, the area is owned by the State of Michigan and managed by its Department of Natural Resources.
